Welcome to Clive
Clive is a bit of a throwback company.
In the age of Amazon, we believe that personal connections are lost. We genuinely enjoy picking up the phone and answering questions, whether it be about espresso or, frankly, anything.
We'd love to have a conversation about your dream morning routine and find the proper espresso setup for your budget.
We don't stop there. We spend hours talking customers through dialing in grinders and pulling that first perfect shot. We're just waiting for our first wedding invite.
We won't sell anything that we wouldn't personally use.
If you find our selection limiting, this is intentional. We do the hard work for you. Whatever choice you make is going to be a good one.

Meet our team
We're a group of coffee-enthusiasts looking to share our knowledge and build a better home espresso experience.
Paul
Paul has been helping people find the right setup for their budget and lifestyle since 2011. Paul also double-checks machines and equipment heading out the door to ensure that your products arrive on time and in pristine condition. When Paul is not at Clive, he's often enjoying motorcycling and the outdoors.
Favorite drink: Straight shot
Amanda
Amanda developed a taste for craft coffee as a young adult through a blossoming admiration of coffee shop culture. Visiting independent cafes and sampling the local style in every town she travels to has been a hobby of hers for years. Amanda's passion for numbers and coffee combined when she joined Clive in early 2017 to organize the financial side of the house.
Favorite drink: Pour over in the morning. Hot or iced americano in the afternoon.
Adam
Adam was a Clive customer back in 2014 when he discovered the joy and quality of espresso at home. In 2016, he met Clive founder, Mark Hellweg, and decided to invest in the company and join full-time. Today, Adam is the CEO of Clive and works exclusively on expanding the education platform and in-house LUCCA brand. He lives in Park City, Utah with his two boys and yellow lab, Derby.
Favorite drink: Ben Piff Bullseye
Ryan
Ryan started with Clive in October of 2015 after graduating from the University of Northern Iowa and venturing to Portland. Beginning in a temp position in the warehouse, Ryan has now been with Clive for over five years and serves as the Tech Manager, overseeing daily operations. Outside of work, you'll find Ryan ripping up backroads on his motorcycle or tinkering in his garage.
Favorite drink: Classic drip coffee in the mornings and an Italiano after lunch.
Sam
In 2016, Sam "Pink" packed her '99 Subaru full of records and coffee equipment, drove from Florida until the car died in America's coffee city- Portland, OR. She joined the team in 2018 and now runs the education department for both Clive and Coffee School. Pink spends her days teaching home baristas how to make great coffee. When she's not at Clive, she's either writing songs or cooking.
Favorite drink: Cafè oat lait (Cafè au lait with oat milk).
Dani
Dani is a coffee lover, yet somewhat of a novice. In fact, it was only right before her first Clive purchase that she owned a Keurig. Eeeeeeh. We decided to give her a chance anyway and since she is in charge of all of our product content, she is learning quickly. Based in Park City with her family, she loves visiting the team in Portland and getting face time with the folks she usually only works with through her laptop.
Favorite drink: Wine
Jared
Jared is a mediocre home barista but an amazing web developer. He handles design, development, and usability at Clive: helping to ensure that researching and buying espresso equipment is as enjoyable as the espresso you'll be producing at home. He lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with his son and a wife whom is very happy to now have her own home barista.
Favorite drink: Latte
Ben G
Ben and his fiancée drove to Portland from Philly in the summer of '18 looking for chill vibes, big mountains, and great coffee. Over his ten years in the coffee industry, Ben has been a barista, technician, educator, and most recently, a product developer. At Clive, he heads up development and promotion of Clive's LUCCA brand, schmoozing manufacturers, wrangling vendors, testing new stuff, and making sure we bring the best product experience to every customer.
Favorite drink: Affogato (it counts)
Sean
Sean grew up in New Orleans where he first discovered his love for chicory and iced coffee in Parisian-esque coffee stands. Born on the bayou, Sean is an avid crawfish boil, frozen daiquiri, and New Orleans Saints fan. Fresh out of graduate school, Sean moved to Portland in 2015 to start a life with his soulmate. Sean joined the CX team in 2019 to give customers an intentional and holistic approach to home coffee making.
Favorite drink: Quad shot Americano
Hannah M.
Hannah fell down the rabbit hole of specialty coffee in 2014 when she got a job as a barista for a coffee roaster/importer in rural Georgia. She fell in love with the beverage's complexity, the vast supply chain, and the constant need to learn. Hannah is an Authorized Specialty Coffee Association Trainer and has traveled the world tasting, slurping, teaching, and judging coffee. When she isn't focused on caffeine, she's probably hula hooping, reading, or being lazy with her dog.
Favorite drink: Espresso and Tonic or Gin and Tonic
Leah
Leah was drawn to Clive by her love of coffee and the contagious energy of the team. She started with us in 2020 as the expert bean-counter (pun intended), ensuring the books are clean at all times. When not behind the computer screen, Leah can be found enjoying the beautiful countryside of the NW with her teenagers and her wind-loving family in the Gorge.
Favorite drink: Caramel Mocha
Joey
Joey, originally hailing from Orlando, began his coffee journey working for the mouse at Starbucks, and eventually weaseled his way into working for smaller cafes and roasters throughout Florida, currently residing in Jacksonville, Florida. He studied coffee production as an undergraduate majoring in Anthropology, and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in History with an emphasis on the study of Brazilian coffee during World War II. Besides his interests in coffee, he is also an avid skateboarder, outdoorsman, and bibliophile.
Favorite drink: Kenyan Pour-Over, but I'm also a sucker for a good shot of bean juice.
Hannah B.
Hannah joined the Clive team in early 2021. She currently works as a front-end developer and designer for Clive, helping create design content and keeping the Clive website up to date. Originally from Connecticut, she moved to Oregon for school, and has been here ever since. Outside of Clive, she can usually be found hiking, biking, or searching for a new addition to her growing plant collection.
Favorite drink: Oat milk London Fog
AJ
AJ became immersed in the world of coffee once college and full time work intersected for the first time in his life - and the rest was history. AJ has spent the majority of his career within the supply chain and logistics realm and will continue to do so for Clive Coffee. In his free time, you can find AJ at the gym, playing a team sport with friends, or playing music to his favorite pop-punk songs as loud as possible.
Favorite drink: Rum and Coke
Zachary
Zac first entered the coffee world when he spent the summer of 2018 traveling Europe. He initially wasn't much of a coffee drinker, but during his travels, he fell in love with the industry and immersed himself into every aspect of the process, from green beans to cupping. He works in the Tech Support department at Clive and loves helping people with their machines. When he's not at work, Zac spends his time roasting coffee, listening to podcasts, finding the next best foodie spot, and enjoying much-needed family time with his wife and son.
Favorite drink: Cortado
Arthur
Arthur was born in Querétaro City, Mexico but grew up right here in sunny Portland, Oregon. A recent convert from the cocktail scene, he just couldn't resist the allure of craft coffee. As a member of the tech team, Arthur uses his service and mechanical skills to make sure all our machines represent a promise fulfilled to Clive's baristas. Outside of the warehouse, he enjoys: eating pizza, doing stuff with motorcycles, and hanging out with his three cats (Franny, Layil, and Kenny D).
Favorite drink: Iced Americano
Justin
Justin found his way to Clive in early 2022. Based in Nashville, he spends all his time at work making sure everything ships out perfectly. He started falling in love with coffee in 2015 while working at a correctional facility as a deputy sheriff, downing cup after cup of stale, burnt coffee with way too many sugar packets just to stay awake. Now, he loves to start each morning with a carefully blended cup and scoffs at what he once drank.
Favorite drink: Iced Oat Milk Latte
Zeb
Zeb started at Clive in Nashville in April of 2021 as a Bench Tester. He fell in love with coffee over the past five years working as a barista in a coffee shop in his hometown of Hartsville, South Carolina. When not working with coffee, he plays and writes music, skateboards, and rides motorcycles.
Favorite drink: Double Shot of Espresso
Joe
Joe began working in specialty coffee in 2008 after moving to Portland from his hometown of Milwaukee, WI. Since then, he has worked in some of the most respected cafes in the city as a barista, manager, and operations lead. He spends the majority of his free time cooking and baking, getting outside with his dog, running, biking, and watching sports of all kinds.
Favorite drink: A shot of espresso in the morning, followed by a Negroni in the evening.
Bailey
Bailey's passion for coffee began in high school when she landed her first job as a barista. After graduating from the University of Arizona she found herself back in the coffee industry and has been there ever since. When she's not helping customers at MistoBox you can find her in California, relaxing in her yard and tending to her garden & fruit trees with her husband, 3 dogs, and their chameleon.
Favorite drink: Espresso martini
Joseph
After four years working for the State of Tennessee government, Joseph entered the coffee industry through Clive where he now leads shipping and order processing for the Nashville warehouse. In this role, he looks to uphold Clive's excellent shipping standards and seeks new ways to optimize warehouse efficiency. Joseph also plays drums in way too many rock bands, enjoys a good game of Texas Hold 'Em and probably drinks more beer than coffee.
Favorite drink: Classic Drip. No sugar, no cream. Just tasty coffee
Matthew
Matthew only recently began a deep dive into coffee working for Clive kicking it up a notch now for the past few years. Born in South Texas and transplanted to Oregon 20 years ago he dabbles in computer networking, woodworking and even reads the occasional book. When on the job he's laser-focused on ensuring customers have the most amazing coffee on hand at all times. If you aren't grinning ear to ear over a cup o' joe his job isn't done.
Favorite drink: The Native Texan says Iced Tea but something like a hot Café De Olla is where it's really at
Tyler
Tyler first learned to roast coffee on a vintage 60-kilo Probat at a cafe near the fisherman's terminal in Seattle. Today, he experiments with growing coffee in Southern California where he's planted a few of his own varieties. As the Director of Coffee at MistoBox, Tyler evaluates all coffee offerings, supports wholesale partners, and works closely with the operations team when he isn't obsessing over his plants or the surf.
Favorite drink: Filter Coffee
Alyssa
Alyssa joined Clive in late 2021, merging her interests of good design and good coffee, although she's usually drinking tea! Originally from Wyoming, she currently works as a designer at Clive in Salt Lake City, creating digital content and finding ways to incorporate illustrations into her work. Outside of that, she can be found practicing yoga, hiking, listening to true crime podcasts, or watching her favorite shows at home.
Favorite drink: London Fog
Scarlette
Scarlette is a Portland native whose appreciation for the magical bean we all run on developed at the tender age of five, when her admiration for her father, and his love of a good, black Americano, resulted in her very own stash of decaf. Years later, while working her way through art school, it wasn't long before she found herself slinging the fully charged stuff at cafes, and her passion was fully realized. Scarlette jumped at the chance to merge two of her greatest interests: people and specialty beverages, and joined Clive in early 2022 as their HR Generalist. In typical Portland fashion, when she isn't enjoying coffee, she's usually exploring local wine or craft beer with friends, gleefully embarrassing herself at karaoke, and doting on her elderly Chihuahua mix.
